Weekly Reader and Randomness

Happy New Year!

I'm supposed to be working. Heh. But I'm sitting here with a messy desk, knowing I can't start until I tackle it, yet enjoying for the moment the randomness of what's been allowed to clutter the surface of my work space. Let's see: a matchbox car and two mini cars books, my fingernail polish and an emery board, the new family calendar, all the lectures of a workshop I took over the holidays, the remnants of a craft project for Christmas, my sudoku book, my ipod and a dog bone. Those are the highlights mixed with several stacks of actual work things. I'm nothing if not sloppy. In my defense, I was focused on molding a good Christmas from stress and difficulties. Keeping my desk clean was not on top of the list. I succeeded with the wonderful Christmas, but the downside is, as I affectionately call it - the garbage pile on my desk. I haven't actually worked for about three weeks, though. If I had, it wouldn't have gotten this bad.

My new year's resolution is to keep my desk clean so it doesn't mess up my mojo. Ummmm, yeah. I love setting myself up for epic fail. :-) Is there stuff that needs to be thrown away here? No. (Well, maybe the dog bone.) Is there stuff that needs to be organized here? Abso-freaking-lutely! Hence, the first work day of my new year will be devoted to making my desk as streamlined as my 2011 Work Plan. Stay tuned for an updated "clean" picture.

My reading list for 2011 is wide and varied. I didn't do much reading in 2010. It's one of my major hobbies, a huge stress reliever for me and yet I let my to be read pile jump to almost 275 books. That's just the romance novels, folks. My list of professional and other books to read is long and varied as well. I'm shooting for 100 books this year romance, plus at least 20 of my professional list. Here's the promise: I will keep track on the sidebar of this blog so y'all can keep me on track. A good nag never hurt anyone. I subscribe fully to Stephen King's idea that you can't write if you don't read. Reading is Red Bull for the creativity.

I just bought Nalini Singh's new Psy-Changling book - Play of Passion. I decided that a fabulous Christmas present to myself was to reread this whole series. I've been diligently sitting on my ass enjoying the heck out of this fabulous keeper series (hence my desk - lol). Slave to Sensation, Visions of Heat and Caressed by Ice are already on the READ list.

Here's my list this week:

Romance List:
Mine to Possess
Hostage to Pleasure
Branded by Fire

Professional List:
ProBlogger by Darren Rowse
Some Men Are More Perfect Than OThers by Merle Shain

What's on your read list? Did you go into the new year with a clean desk? Leave me a comment and torment'll light a fire under my....ahem.....yeah.

You scared us all 'cause nobody keeps their desk clean LOL

I just moved back upstairs to my desk after a month's's rather in need of organization as well. I haven't seen the wood top for years but I know where everything is, which is important. Which reminds me, I forgot my stapler downstairs still and two of my pens...dangit...
